To anyone joining me and even giving this the light of day, I thank you very much. I appreciate with all my heart anyone taking their time to look at my stuff, regardless if they agree or really care all that much. I love sports a lot. That certainly stems from the fact that my dad had a passion for them and I played a lot of them throughout my childhood. The core of it though is that I find sports to be the perfect escape. In a world where I’ve often felt lost and uncomfortable, sports have provided me an alternative scope to learn and see the world through. Because of that I want to help others see both the beauty and ugliness that exists within the world of sports. From the misconceptions to the inescapable truths, I love it all. This blog is going to focus on my passion for team building. The name “Unqualified GM” is meant to emphasize my perspective as someone who does not have enough experience to be making roster decisions for any team in any sport. At the same time I hope my perspective is perceived as well thought out.
To start, I’m going to be looking at one MLB, NFL and NBA team and writing three parts each on how I’d build each one to a championship level team. Hopefully once I have the time to commit to it, I can look at all 92 teams across those three leagues. Until then I hope you enjoy the plans I’ve laid out for the Chicago Bears, Oakland Athletics and Orlando Magic. I feel these teams allow me to look at various problems faced across the different leagues. Examples include: salary-cap vs no salary-cap, offense vs defense, small market vs big market and history vs opportunity. Finally, because of the time I’m writing this (late February-late April 2023), I’ll get the opportunity to analyze each team at various points in their league calendar. I look forward to the journey, and again, thank you for joining me!!
